Work on a huge development bounded by Priory Ringway, Corporation
Street, Bull Street and Dale End had already started with the new
Barrow's
store already complete in November 1964. Designed by Frank Gibberd,
the Corporation
Square development would take 3 years to complete, implemented in five
stages. My memories of this area of the city mostly revolve
around the Virgin Megastore, the wonderful
Oasis, and some
great concerts that took place in the Hummingbird/Academy in Dale End.
In 2014, all the buildings survived despite a huge redevelopment of the
area under the name of
Martineau
Galleries being proposed almost a decade earlier.
