Martineau Place
|
A large development that was already well underway and included the
13-storey Commercial Union office block, surrounded by shop units
fronting Corporation Street and Union Street. Plans for more
shops in Bull Street would go ahead and would be completed by the end
of 1965. In later years, the area would become known as Martineau
Place.
At the end of the 1990's, Martineau Place received a bit of a
makeover. I think it was supposed to make it look modern but the
result is rather tacky, to my eye.
In 2014, the whole complex remained in place but the Commercial Union
office block had been converted to serviced apartments known as
Staybridge Suites.
