1964 Status
Proposed/Complete
2014 Status
Extant (but modified)
Name
Martineau Place

A large development that was already well underway and included the 13-storey Commercial Union office block, surrounded by shop units fronting Corporation Street and Union Street.  Plans for more shops in Bull Street would go ahead and would be completed by the end of 1965.  In later years, the area would become known as Martineau Place.

At the end of the 1990's, Martineau Place received a bit of a makeover.  I think it was supposed to make it look modern but the result is rather tacky, to my eye.

In 2014, the whole complex remained in place but the Commercial Union office block had been converted to serviced apartments known as Staybridge Suites.
