Rochdale Station

Dating back to 1889, Rochdale Station is still operating today.

This Class 2P 2-4-4T 'LYR Aspinall', 50777, was built in 1887.  Rochdale Station had been part of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway before joining the LMS.  The loco came from Sowerby Bridge shed.

This picture is unusal as my father had annotated it more thoroughly than usual.  As well as the location and time there was this further note: 'Train - 2.42 PM Local M'chester (Vic) to Halifax Town'.

I think this view is of the north-eastern end of the station where the line passes over Richard Street.  Note the interesting water columns on the end of the platforms and what looks like a traditional northern mill to the right.

The loco is Class 5 4-6-0 'Black Five' 44690 from Polmadie Shed.
